Baubot GmbH, a Vienna-based pioneer in mobile robotics solutions for the construction industry, has been using PDM Studio, the product data management system from German company CAD Partner GmbH, since 2023. By introducing this solution, the company has laid the foundation for a future-proof, scalable data structure and a significant increase in efficiency in technical product development.
The wholly owned subsidiary of the fischer Group is making the construction site of the future a reality with the development of its Baubots—mobile robots that can drill, mill, paint, or set anchors. The robots work independently with the help of advanced software and control systems, even under difficult conditions in tunnel construction or on large construction sites. The robots relieve the burden on skilled personnel, work precisely, and ensure consistent quality. With growing success, organizational demands also increased. More and more development projects and design data required a professional PDM solution that could manage not only CAD data but also documents and supplier data.
PDM Studio impressed with its deep Solidworks integration, ease of use, and the ability to automate routine processes via workflows—without any programming effort. “In a market comparison, CAD Partner impressed us with its many years of expertise in the PDM environment and the high flexibility of PDM Studio. We found a partner who understood our specific needs and was able to implement them perfectly within the planned budget,” says Georg Frühwirth, Team Lead Mechatronics at Baubot. The ability to automate recurring routine tasks via workflows without any programming effort was particularly convincing.
Implementation in just 8 days – thanks to standard configuration
Another factor contributing to the success was the rapid implementation: CAD Partner introduced the software in just eight working days thanks to the preconfigured PDM Studio Express rapid start bundle. “This minimizes costs and implementation effort while promoting acceptance within the team,” explains Stefan Mitsch, Business Development Manager at CAD Partner. For Baubot, it was important to integrate a lean but powerful PDM system into the existing CAD software environment in a short period of time to enable a future-proof and efficient workflow in CAD engineering as quickly as possible. The smooth integration and practical training ensured high acceptance throughout the company.
Efficient, future-proof solution for product data management
Today, Baubot benefits from a clearly structured, versioned, and traceable development workflow. Data is always available, changes are documented, and communication with other departments is automated. “Due to the continuous development of our company, working with the experienced team at CAD Partner is an efficient way for us to ensure that we will continue to have perfectly tailored IT solutions in the field of CAD engineering in the future,” summarizes Frühwirth. With the tailwind of a stable PDM structure and a reliable partner at its side, Baubot will continue to advance its mission—to make tomorrow's construction sites smarter, more efficient, and safer.
